Pamela Taylor Appointed Director of the Bureau of Labor Standards at Maine Department of Labor

AUGUSTA?Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette is pleased to announce the hiring of Pamela Taylor as the director of the Bureau of Labor Standards of the Maine Department of Labor.

In this position, Taylor leads the agency tasked with providing oversight of Maine?s labor laws, including laws on minimum wage, youth employment, prevailing wage, hours, dismissals and SafetyWorks!, the department?s on-site health and safety consultation and training program. In addition, the bureau is responsible for compiling wage surveys and conducting investigations.

Taylor has several years? experience in labor and human resource issues. She served as the bureau's deputy director for the past six months and brings 14 years of experience interpreting and enforcing labor laws from her work as a wage and hour technician with the U.S. Department of Labor in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

?The position of the Bureau Director is one of great responsibility,? said Taylor. ?I look forward to continuing my work with the Department of Labor to help achieve our mission to continually improve workplace health and safety and fairly apply the laws affecting employers and employees as well as to work professionally with all our customers, both workers and businesses.?

Taylor?s position became effective Jan. 21.
