Maine Paid Family & Medical Leave Contracts with Spring Consulting Group, An Alera Group Company, LLC for Actuarial Services

The company was chosen through a competitive RFP process.

AUGUSTA - The Maine Department of Labor has announced that after a competitive RFP process, it has contracted with Spring Consulting Group - https://www.springgroup.com/, An Alera Group Company, LLC, a national health and financial services firm, to conduct actuarial studies of the Maine Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) trust fund.

The actuary will be responsible for conducting the initial PFML trust fund solvency study. Statutorily, this study must be completed before benefits become available in 2026. Subsequent annual studies are required to aid in the setting of annual contribution rates and maximum benefit amounts.

Spring Consulting Group, An Alera Group Company, LLC, has years of experience working with state PFML programs and employer absence programs to develop long-term benefits strategy, prepare cost projections, and calculate reserves for the long-term sustainability of leave programs.

Beginning May 1, 2026, eligible Maine workers in the private and public sector will have up to 12 weeks of paid time off available to care for a family member with a serious health condition, to bond with a child after birth, fostering or adoption, to care for their own medical needs, to deal with the transition of a family member's impending military deployment or to stay safe after abuse or violence.
