Transitioning from Active Duty to Civilian Life

Welcome Home.

The Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services is here to help Service Members, Veterans, and their families navigate the transition from military service to civilian life.

Whether you are returning to Maine after active-duty service or moving to the Pine Tree State for the first time, we are honored that you have chosen to begin the next chapter of your life here.

Our Veteran Services Officers, all of whom are veterans themselves, understand the challenges and opportunities that come with transitioning to civilian life. They are here to answer your questions, connect you with the benefits and resources you've earned, and serve as your trusted resource for all veteran-related matters.

We invite you to visit one of our eight offices across the state, including our Central Office at Camp Keyes in Augusta and our office located at the VA Maine Togus campus.

How the Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services Can Help.

A Veteran Services Officer can assist with:

  • VA disability compensation claims
  • Education and training benefits
  • Healthcare enrollment
  • State of Maine veterans’ benefits
  • Employment and career resources
  • Housing and financial assistance resources
  • Veteran cemetery eligibility
  • Obtaining or reviewing military records
  • Connecting with local, state, and federal support services

Even if you do not have an immediate need for assistance, we want to be your trusted resource for all veteran-related matters. You are important to us, and we are committed to supporting your successful transition to civilian life, employment, and beyond.
