Welcome to the Maine Commission on Public Defense Services (PDS) Annual Reports library. In accordance with 4 M.R.S.A. § 1804(3)(H), the Commission submits an annual report to the Legislature, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, and the Governor by January 15th of each year. These documents provide a comprehensive overview of the Commission's operations, budgetary needs, and the evolving costs of Maine’s indigent legal services system.
Formerly known as the Maine Commission on Indigent Legal Services (MCILS), our organization was renamed in 2024 to reflect our expanding role in managing a hybrid system of both private assigned counsel and state-employed public defenders.
