About the Board of Osteopathic Licensure

The Board of Osteopathic Licensure is responsible for helping to ensure the health and safety of the public of this State. It is the responsibility of the Board to determine which applicants qualify to practice osteopathic medicine in the State of Maine by regulating the practice of its licensees.

The Board of Osteopathic Licensure attest to the accuracy and timeliness of the data provided on its website. Data is transmitted in real time from the Board's ALMS database and is secure.

The Board has utilized the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS) as a partner in its licensing of osteopathic physicians in Maine. Physicians initially licensed in Maine after February 2022 have had their medical education, post-graduate training and examination history primary source verified by FCVS. Before February 2022, the Board accepted but did not require the FCVS core credentials product and conducted primary source on its own including medical education, post-graduate training and examination history. Use of the Board’s website for documentation of primary source verification of education and training meets the current NCQA guidelines.

This statement affirms that primary source verification of medical education, post-graduate training and examination history has been performed as part of the licensure process and we encourage you to print it and retain it in your files.

Important Information from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) - May 2023 (New report of this in DEC 2023)

The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning of a widespread fraud scheme in which criminals are posing as DEA agents. Scammers are calling doctors and other medical professionals demanding money, and threatening jail and revocation of medical licenses.

DEA personnel will never contact members of the public or medical practitioners to demand money or any other form of payment, will never request personal or sensitive information, and will only notify people of a legitimate investigation or legal action in person or by official letter. No legitimate federal law enforcement officer will demand cash or gift cards from a member of the public.

PMP personnel will never contact registrants to demand payment nor request sensitive information. Referrals of higher-risk prescribers are sent via email with official attachments or paper mail to the address on file on the PMP registration.
