Westbrook legislators celebrate longtime public servant

Rep. Drew Gattine, Rep. Morgan Rielly and Rep. Sue Salisbury, all D-Westbrook, welcomed Dory Waxman to the State House on Wednesday to honor her more than 45 years of public service.

Waxman served on the Portland School Committee, Portland City Council, Portland City Charter Commission and has chaired several city committees.

She also founded a neighborhood organization and several successful local businesses.

Legislature advances Salisbury bill to extend line of duty death benefits for emergency responders who die by suicide

AUGUSTA - The Maine Legislature advanced a bill on Tuesday from Rep. Sue Salisbury, D-Westbrook, to support Maine's emergency responders and their loved ones by formally recognizing death by suicide as a death while in the line of duty for individuals working in emergency services.

Sue Salisbury, D-Westbrook, joined Maine Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel and Friends of EMS for Maine for the annual Maine EMS Week Celebration and Remembrance Ceremony at the State House on Thursday.

On Thursday, Rep. Sue Salisbury, D-Westbrook, spoke at the annual Maine Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week Celebration and Remembrance Ceremony about her commitment to supporting Maine EMS and the essential services they provide to communities across the state.

Salisbury is the House chair of the Legislature's Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety. In 2022, she served on the Blue Ribbon Commission to Study Emergency Medical Services in the State.

Salisbury accepted to Council of State Governments' New Legislative Leaders Academy

AUGUSTA - Rep. Sue Salisbury, D-Westbrook, has been accepted to the Council of State Governments' New Legislative Leaders Academy which will gather officials that have been newly elected to leadership positions and facilitate discussions about leadership best practices in a nonpartisan environment.

The academy is dedicated to helping legislators advance their priorities and build connections with leaders across the country. It will take place on June 14-16.

Committee advances Salisbury bill to create a school meal equipment improvement fund

AUGUSTA - The Legislature's Education and Cultural Affairs Committee voted Tuesday to advance LD 1183, sponsored by Rep. Sue Salisbury, D-Westbrook, which would establish the School Meal Equipment and Program Improvement Fund to be administered by the Maine Department of Education (DOE).

Committee unanimously approves Salisbury bill to support access to emergency health care

AUGUSTA - The Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services voted Thursday to advance a bill from Rep. Sue Salisbury, D-Westbrook, that would support Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers that offer community paramedicine services. The vote was 11-0, among members present, with two members still to vote.
