Westbrook legislators celebrate longtime public servant

Rep. Drew Gattine, Rep. Morgan Rielly and Rep. Sue Salisbury, all D-Westbrook, welcomed Dory Waxman to the State House on Wednesday to honor her more than 45 years of public service.

Waxman served on the Portland School Committee, Portland City Council, Portland City Charter Commission and has chaired several city committees.

She also founded a neighborhood organization and several successful local businesses.

Legislature advances Rielly bill to address sexual assault and harassment within Maine National Guard

AUGUSTA - The Maine Legislature voted this week to advance LD 1783, sponsored by Rep. Morgan Rielly, D-Westbrook, which would implement recommendations from the Governor's Advisory Council on Military Sexual Trauma and take additional steps to support survivors of sexual assault and harassment within the Maine National Guard.

Governor signs Rielly bill to examine other than honorable veteran discharges

AUGUSTA - Last week, Gov. Janet Mills signed into law LD 1523, sponsored by Rep. Morgan Rielly, D-Westbrook, which will establish a Qualifying Condition Review Board to review other than honorable veteran discharges based on gender identity, sexual orientation, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and military sexual trauma.

Governor signs Rielly bill to protect Maine's working waterfront

On Wednesday, Gov. Janet Mills held a ceremonial bill signing for LD 574, a measure sponsored by Rep. Morgan Rielly, D-Westbrook, and cosponsored by Rep. Vicki Doudera, D-Camden, that would expand the language of working waterfront covenants to include nonprofit corporations and charitable trusts that are authorized to hold conservation easements, further protecting Maine's last remaining miles of working waterfront.

Rielly introduces bill to provide financial relief to Maine's volunteer service members

AUGUSTA - Rep. Morgan Rielly, D-Westbrook, introduced legislation on Wednesday before the Legislature's Joint Standing Committee on Taxation to provide financial relief to volunteer service members.

LD 1573 would allow for the education awards received by members of AmeriCorps, the Maine Service Fellows and the Maine Climate Corps, which can be used to repay eligible student loans, to be tax exempt.
