Bill to address invasive aquatic species signed into law

AUGUSTA - Gov. Janet Mills recently signed into law a bill to advance efforts to control invasive aquatic species. LD 1826, sponsored by Rep. Tavis Hasenfus, D-Readfield, requires the Interagency Task Force on Invasive Aquatic Plants and Nuisance Species to report back to the Legislature and relevant departments their findings and recommendations, including suggested legislation related to controlling the introduction of invasive aquatic plants and nuisance species in Maine.

State champion Winthrop field hockey team visits State House

Rep. Tavis Hasenfus, D-Readfield, and Sen. Craig Hickman, D-Kennebec, welcome the Winthrop High School field hockey team to the State House Wednesday.

The team was recognized by the entire House and Senate for winning the 2021 Class C State Championship.

Hasenfus is serving his first term in the Maine House and serves on the Innovation, Development, Economic Advancement and Business Committee. He represents Readfield, Winthrop and part of Monmouth.

AUGUSTA - The Maine House of Representatives gave initial approval Wednesday to a bill sponsored by Rep. Tavis Hasenfus, D-Readfield, to advance efforts to control invasive aquatic species. LD 1826 would require the Interagency Task Force on Invasive Aquatic Plants and Nuisance Species to report back to the Legislature and relevant departments their findings and recommendations, including suggested legislation related to controlling the introduction of invasive aquatic plants and nuisance species in Maine.

Area legislators earn highest score for supporting Maine's education professionals

AUGUSTA - Rep. Thom Harnett, D-Gardiner, and Rep. Tavis Hasenfus, D-Readfield, have each received a 100% rating on votes to support Maine's education professionals and schools, according to a recent scorecard released by the Maine Education Association (MEA).

"Providing all of our young people with a quality education is one of the most important functions of government," said Harnett. "I am proud to support our teachers and all involved in education, and I thank them for their service."

On Redistricting

As you may have read in the paper or heard on the news, the Maine Legislature has just completed our work on redistricting. Maine is constitutionally mandated to redraw district lines after the federal census has been completed and the data is released. This includes the two congressional districts, the 35 state senate districts and the 151 house districts, as well as the county commissioner districts.

Winthrop scholarship winner honored by lawmakers

Rep. Tavis Hasenfus, D-Winthrop, and fellow legislators welcomed Brooke Belz, of Winthrop, and her parents to the State House on Wednesday, March 27. Belz was awarded the 2024 Legislative Memorial Scholarship for Kennebec County.

The team was recognized by the entire House for winning the 2023 Class C State Championship, their third state title in three years.
