The Maine Legislature to convene at the Augusta Civic Center on Wednesday, April 28

AUGUSTA - Senate President Troy Jackson of Allagash and House Speaker Ryan Fecteau of Biddeford have announced that the Maine Legislature will convene Wednesday, April 28 at the Augusta Civic Center. The Senate proceedings will begin at 10:00 a.m.; the House proceedings will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Lawmakers are expected to take votes on bills that have come out of committee over the last month.

The House calendar will be made available on the Legislature's website Monday night. The Senate calendar will be made available on the Legislature's website Tuesday.

Committee unanimously approves Berry's bill to stop misleading winter disconnection notices

AUGUSTA - The Legislature's Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee voted 9-0 on Thursday to support a bill sponsored by the House chair of the committee, Rep. Seth Berry, D-Bowdoinham, that would ban misleading winter disconnection notices as part of the collections process.

After the bill's public hearing on April 14, Berry had said the legislation would end CMP's "shameless and dishonest harassment of customers" during the winter months.

Committee unanimously approves Doudera's bill to ban chlorpyrifos pesticide in time for Earth Day

AUGUSTA - The Legislature's Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry unanimously approved LD 316, An Act To Prohibit the Use of Chlorpyrifos, on Tuesday. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Vicki Doudera, D-Camden, bans the use of chlorpyrifos, an organophosphate pesticide proven to adversely affect the environment, human health and the food system.
