Kessler bill to establish net neutrality standards in Maine is now law

AUGUSTA – A measure sponsored by Rep. Chris Kessler, D-South Portland, to establish net neutrality standards in Maine is now law. 

As amended, LD 536 requires an internet service provider (ISP) to offer net neutral service to customers in the state – meaning all internet traffic must be treated equally. A violation of the requirements of this law is a violation of the Maine Unfair Trade Practices Act, which is enforced by the Maine Attorney General’s Office. 

Rep. Rielly’s bill to create a Working Waterfront Infrastructure Engineer Corps Pilot Program receives funding, signed by governor

AUGUSTA – A measure sponsored by Rep. Morgan Rielly, D-Westbrook, that would develop a Working Waterfront Infrastructure Engineer Corps recently received $90,000 in funding support for fiscal year 2026-27 from the Maine House and Senate. The bill was signed by Gov. Janet Mills yesterday.  

Governor signs Cloutier legislation to help address the knowledge gap around perimenopause and menopause

AUGUSTA – On July 1, Gov. Janet Mills signed into law legislation sponsored by Rep. Kristen Cloutier, D-Lewiston, that will better equip those who menstruate with the knowledge they need to help navigate menopause and make informed decisions about their bodies and health. 

Eaton bill to support scallop farming industry is now law

AUGUSTA – A measure sponsored by Rep. Holly Eaton, D-Deer Isle, to create a pilot program for the testing of biotoxins in cultured scallops is now law. Gov. Janet Mills signed the measure on July 1. 

“I want to thank everyone who made this possible – the growers, advocates and organizations who believe in the future of scallop farming here in Maine,” said Eaton. “Scallop farming holds real promise for diversifying our fisheries and supporting our working waterfront communities, and I am so pleased to see this idea become reality.”
