AUGUSTA - On Friday, the Governor's Office of Policy Innovation and the Future announced that the Town of Old Orchard Beach was selected to receive a $33,500 Community Resilience Partnership Community Action Grant award from the state.
The funding will be used to complete energy audits of six municipal buildings and utilize recommendations to develop an energy efficiency implementation plan.
Rep. Lori K. Gramlich, D-Old Orchard Beach, released the following statement applauding the funding:
"This grant represents an incredible opportunity for our community to transform our municipal energy usage in a way that saves taxpayer dollars in the long run while also reducing emissions," said Gramlich. "Our beautiful seaside community is increasingly at risk from the impacts of climate change. I have long advocated for proactive steps to protect our coastal communities and am proud of Old Orchard Beach for being a part of the solution."
This is the third round of funding announced for Community Action Grants. The program made awards to 53 communities this round, totaling $2.4 million. Statewide, 174 communities have joined the Community Resilience Partnership.
Gramlich is a third-term member of the Maine House. She is House chair of the Legislature's Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
