AUGUSTA - Rep. Chris Kessler, D-South Portland, has been appointed by Speaker of the House Rachel Talbot Ross, D-Portland, to the Maine Climate Council.
The council was established by Gov. Janet Mills and the Legislature in June 2019 and is charged with establishing strategies and initiatives to help the state meet its greenhouse gas reductions and renewable energy generation targets as it works to combat climate change, and to make sure our communities, industries and people are resilient to the changes our state is facing.
"I am honored to be nominated by Speaker Talbot Ross to serve on the Maine Climate Council," said Kessler. "The climate crisis poses a significant threat to every corner of our state. I'm looking forward to contributing my expertise as an energy auditor to help further the council's critical role in continuing Maine's efforts to combat the impacts of climate change."
Rep. Kessler is a strong advocate for energy efficiency and renewable energy. He is a former board member of the Maine Association of Building Efficiency Professionals and helped to administer the City of South Portland's Low-Income Weatherization Program.
Kessler is serving his third term as a member of the Maine House and represents part of South Portland and part of Cape Elizabeth. He serves as a member on the Joint Standing Committee on Energy Utilities and Technology.
