By Order dated May 11, 2020, the Department of Environmental Protection (Department) conditionally approved Central Maine Power Company's (CMP) applications for State land use permits for the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) project. The Department’s NECEC Order followed a 29-month regulatory review, which included six days of evidentiary hearings and two nights of public testimony. In June of 2020, a group of towns and individuals who intervened in the licensing proceeding (West Forks Plantation, Town of Caratunk, Kennebec River Anglers, Maine Guide Service, LLC, Hawks Nest Lodge, Ed Buzzell, Kathy Barkley, Kim Lyman, Noah Hale, Eric Sherman, Matt Wagner, Mike Pilsbury, Mandy Farrar and Carrie Carpenter (collectively referred to “West Forks”)) and the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM) filed separate appeals of the Department’s NECEC Order.

Nordic Aquafarms, Inc.
On June 20, 2019, the Board assumed licensing jurisdiction over Nordic Aquafarms' applications to construct and operate a land-based Atlantic salmon aquaculture facility on an approximately 54 acre site in Belfast.
