Improving Teacher Quality State GrantLegal Advertisement Request for Proposals The Maine Department of Education is seeking proposals to develop and provide literacy professional development in grade K-12 to education professionals in high need Local Education Agencies to ensure that teachers are meeting the No Child Left Behind Acts definition of “highly qualified teacher”. The grants will be for up to one year, renewable yearly for up five years at the discretion of the Department. Approximate funding for the first year is $600,000. Approximate funding available each year thereafter is $345,000 (total). Partnerships made up of a minimum of a High Need Local Educational Agency (LEA), an Institution of Higher Education (IHE) teacher preparation division, and a College of arts and sciences are eligible. Eligible applicants and fiscal agents must be public or private non- profit organizations. Proposals will be accepted until 2:00 PM Monday, July 21, 2008 at the Bureau of Purchases, Burton Cross State Office Building, 4th Floor, 111 Sewall St., State House Station 9, Augusta, ME 04333-0009. Proposals will be opened at that time. Please note: only proposals actually received by the Division of Purchases in the Burton Cross State Office Building prior to the opening time will be considered. Bidders submitting proposals by mail are responsible for allowing adequate time for delivery. Postmarks will not count and proposals may not be faxed or e-mailed.
