Details:

Effective supervision spans three main areas (Administrative, Educational, and Supportive Supervision) that, while related, are also distinct. Each is an important component or piece of the bigger picture puzzle of child welfare supervision. The supervisor curriculum developed by the Butler Institute is competency-based so that training participants attain the level of proficiency designated by the competencies. Supervisory Training Academy consists of three separate modules. Each module emphasizes self-reflection and application to the unique circumstances of each supervisor. All modules are highly interactive and accommodate a variety of learning styles to maximize the learning experience. This module, Educational Supervision, focuses on those areas of supervision related to what a staff person needs to know to the job and help them integrate it into their work. Through educational supervision staff learn the knowledge, skills and attitudes to do their work. Key concepts covered in this module include: learning styles, orienting new staff, stages of staff development transfer of learning, supervisors as feedback providers and understanding emotional responses.
