The Maine Prescription Drug Affordability Board (MPDAB) was established in 2019 pursuant to MRS Title 5 Chapter 167-1. The Maine Office of Affordable Health Care provides staffing support to the Board.
The Board’s original charge was to determine annual spending targets for prescription drugs purchased by Maine public payers, monitor whether those targets were met, and proposed strategies to reduce prescription drug spending by public plans. In 2026, new legislation was enacted which broadened the MPDAB statute and requires the Board to study and make detailed recommendations to the legislature on strategies to lower prescription drug costs by October 2027.
