Building Safety Month Week 4 Video: Communities Without Limits

In honor of Building Safety Month, the Division of Building Codes and Standards at the Maine Office of Community Affairs is releasing a video every week through the month of May about improving building safety.

The theme for Week 4 of Building Safety Month 2026 is Communities Without Limits, which showcases the importance of accessibility in building construction and design.

For this week’s video, the Division of Building Codes and Standards spoke with Elizabeth Gattine, Cabinet on Aging Coordinator in the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future; Todd Rothstein, Director of Construction Services for Avesta Housing; and Pat Barendt, Project Architect for Simons Architects about what communities can do to prioritize accessibility in construction and building design.
