Agency Name Change: MCILS to PDS

The Maine Commission on Indigent Legal Services is changing its name to the Maine Commission on Public Defense Services (PDS) pursuant to LD 653 which was enacted as law on March 21, 2024.

Over the coming weeks PDS will be gradually changing our online and public presence as well as our contact information to reflect this name change. You should expect to see changes primarily on our secure website, our newsletter, and the distribution lists you use to interact with us. For example, mcils@maine.gov will become pds@maine.gov. These changes will not affect our rules. Our rules will remain effective during this change and will be consistently applied.
