Representative Edward Crockett

Rep. Ed Crockett is serving his third term in the Maine House of Representatives. He currently sits on the Taxation Committee and the Innovation, Development, Economic Advancement and Business Committee.

A Portland native, Rep. Crockett was born and raised on Munjoy Hill. He earned bachelor’s degrees in journalism and broadcasting from the University of Maine at Orono and later earned a Master of Business Administration from Boston College.

Rep. Crockett is currently the president of Capt’n Eli’s Soda, a premium Maine soft drink company. Previously, he held leadership positions with iconic Maine food and beverage brands including Country Kitchen, Hannaford and Oakhurst Dairy, and also worked as a newscaster at a Bangor-based television station.

Rep. Crockett is also the author of the memoir, “The Ghosts of Walter Crockett.” He is a former board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, a former corporator for Boys and Girls Clubs and spent 20 years as a volunteer youth coach.

Rep. Crockett, his wife, Martha, and his three children, Seth, Mattie and Ted, all graduated from Portland High School.

Committee

Rep. Crockett is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Innovation, Development, Economic Advancement and Business and the Joint Standing Committee on Taxation.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Business regulation, including automobile and fuel sales; retail pricing; franchising; advertising; real estate practices; professional and occupational licensing; consumer protection; Finance Authority of Maine (FAME), including student assistance programs at Finance Authority of Maine; economic development; economic planning and development agencies; venture capital and trade programs; opportunity zones; import competition; product marketing; research and development; technology commercialization; technology transfers; tourism; and defense facility conversion.

Brief description of the subject matter handled by the committee: Bureau of Revenue Services and State Board of Property Tax Review; state and local taxes; tax exemptions and credits; tax expenditure review; taxpayer relief programs; property valuation and assessment; tax increment financing; municipal revenue sharing; taxation of unorganized territories; and tree growth and other current use tax issues.
