Outreach and Education is committed to providing employees and employers with information regarding worker rights and employer responsibilities under Maine’s labor laws. Because resources are limited, we do ask that any training requests that require customization be for parties of 20 or more attendees.
We offer the following options for trainings:
In-person Presentations: We provide in-person presentations on a wide range of essential topics, including minimum wage, Earned Paid Leave, child labor regulations and other workplace rights.
Online Presentations: If an in-person presentation is not feasible, we also offer real-time, online presentations. These virtual presentations offer the same level of information and interaction as in-person presentations, while offering the convenience of remote accessibility for your group. As with in-person presentations, they can be adapted to meet your needs.
Workers’ Rights Series: This option provides organizations with the opportunity to provide the communities they serve with shorter presentations on specific workers’ rights topics over a series of dates. This gives the community members more time to explore specific topics with the presenter.
Event Tables or Booths: We can be available at conferences or events, where we set up informative booths and engage with individuals who approach the table. These events allow us to assist those who may seek guidance, request information or who have questions regarding labor laws.
Staff Training: Does your staff work closely with an underserved population? Would they like to know more about the services the Bureau of Labor Standards offers? Do they have questions regarding labor laws? Our training programs are offered in-person or virtually and can be designed to meet your specific needs.
The Bureau of Labor Standards is dedicated to working with the underserved populations in the state of Maine. Our outreach encompasses advocacy groups, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, small business associations, government agencies, and foreign government representatives. We do request that if the audience favors a non-English translation, that the group provide the translator as our translation resources are limited. Our goal is to provide information and assistance to those in need in the form they need it. We work closely with groups and organizations to provide relevant information.
For the business community, our outreach focuses on labor laws and topics that are relevant to your operations, such as:
How the Bureau of Labor Standards can proactively support businesses
Changes in labor laws
Payment of wages
Payroll records
Maintenance of records
Child labor laws
Tip appropriation
Workplace Rights
Earned Paid Leave
