Legislative committee votes to advance Sachs bill to protect reproductive health care services

Melanie Sachs, D-Freeport, that aims to safeguard reproductive health care services during consolidations and mergers between health care providers.

Sachs introduces bill to streamline better access and services for Mainers with disabilities

AUGUSTA - Rep. Melanie Sachs, D-Freeport, introduced legislation last week that would establish a task force to study the formation of a statewide commission on disabilities.

LD 1339 was inspired by Rep. Sachs' work with the Freeport Accessibility Task Force, a dedicated group of volunteers committed to increasing access and opportunities for those with different abilities in their community.

Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee Advances a Continuing Services Budget

AUGUSTA - On Friday, the Legislature's Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee approved a continuing services budget. The vote was unanimous among present members. The budget measure - LD 424, "An Act Making Certain Appropriations and Allocations and Changing Certain Provisions of the Law Necessary to the Proper Operations of State Government" goes before the Legislature for a vote next week.

Sachs named House chair of Legislature's Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee

AUGUSTA - Rep. Melanie Sachs, D-Freeport, will serve as House chair of the Legislature's Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee.

"I am honored to be named House chair of this important committee," said Sachs. "The work we do will have a profound impact on Mainers across the state. I am excited to work in a bipartisan way to further Maines economic and budgetary goals."

House District

Rep. Melanie Sachs is serving her third term in the Maine House of Representatives. She is the House chair of the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee.

Sachs grew up in New Sharon and graduated from Mt. Blue High School in Farmington. She received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Bates College in Lewiston and her master’s degree in science and social administration from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
