AUGUSTA – Rep. Deqa Dhalac, D-South Portland, presented legislation before the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee last Thursday to improve perinatal care through expanding access to doulas for expecting mothers in Maine.
LD 1523 seeks to expand access to doula services by allowing MaineCare to pay for doula attendance during childbirth, as well as prenatal and postpartum visits.

Office hours provide constituents with an opportunity to hear updates from Augusta, ask questions about policymaking and share opinions on state matters. They also serve as an opportunity for residents to get help navigating state agencies and voice concerns.
AUGUSTA – On Tuesday, the Legislature’s Housing and Economic Development Committee voted 7-3 to support a bill sponsored
by Rep. Holly Eaton, D-Deer Isle, to provide funding for the redevelopment of the former Island Nursing Home into affordable senior housing.
AUGUSTA – Rep. Wayne Farrin, D-Jefferson, introduced legislation before the Taxation Committee on Wednesday that would help small businesses recoup the cost of some credit card and debit card fees.
AUGUSTA – On Thursday, the Maine Legislature advanced LD 415, sponsored by Rep. Anne Graham, D-North Yarmouth, which would support hunger prevention efforts in Maine.

Over the six non-consecutive terms that I have spent representing Lewiston in the Maine House of Representatives, I have learned a great deal about the core issues that regularly impact our community – including rising property taxes that are making it difficult for older Mainers to remain in their homes and for young Mainers to purchase their first homes.
AUGUSTA – Rep. Jan Dodge, D-Belfast, introduced a bill, LD 217, Monday to require schools to provide condoms free of charge to all students enrolled in grades 9-12 in order to reduce both unintended teen pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted infections.
