Rising energy costs, including electricity, are making life harder for Mainers across the state. Together, the panelists will examine an average electric bill and talk about how rates are set, what drives monthly costs and ways that ratepayers can save moving forward. 

This event is free and open to the public.

Kilton Webb, D-Durham, hosted a community forum on Thursday, September 17 with Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey to discuss how Mainers can better protect themselves from fraud and scams, including the Bitcoin Depot kiosk scam, which ultimately resulted in a $1.9 million payout this year to Mainers who were defrauded.

Election Day is right around the corner, and Gorham residents will have an opportunity to make their voices heard on a number of important issues on November 3. Regardless of party affiliation, I want to emphasize that your vote matters.

As scams become more sophisticated, it’s important to know how to identify and report them. Attorney General Frey will discuss the work his office has done to address this growing issue and how to keep yourself and your assets safe. 

I believe that everyone in Waldo County deserves to be able to age with dignity. But when I’m out in our community and talking with folks, I often hear how they are struggling to get by. People are worried about how they’re going to afford to grow old in their own homes, pay for groceries and keep up with their regular monthly bills. One of the biggest concerns I hear about is the cost of healthcare, and especially the price of needed medication.

As summer comes to a close and families begin to prepare for the colder months ahead, there are two issues I have been hearing more about from constituents: the $300 relief checks being sent to eligible Mainers, and how to access heating assistance. 

This year, the Legislature passed a measure that will provide $300 relief checks to help working families and seniors with the rising cost of essentials like gas and groceries. 

This year, the Legislature passed a measure that will provide $300 relief checks to roughly 514,000 Mainers. The state began sending the checks at the end of July.

In order to receive your check, you must be a full-time Maine resident and meet certain income requirements. To demonstrate eligibility, Mainers must file a 2025 state income tax return by Oct. 15, 2026. This is true even if you are not normally required to file a tax return.
