News from the State House

By Rep. Holly Eaton, D-Deer Isle

The Legislature wrapped up its work for the session in mid-June. This year, we enacted more than 600 laws that will address the issues Mainers care about and move our state forward. Many of them officially went into effect on Sept. 24.

Fall resources for heating assistance and back-to-school immigration concerns

By Rep. Ellie Sato

As we move into the fall season, there have been two issues I have been hearing more about from constituents: winter heating costs and back-to-school safety.

While recent actions from the federal government have created funding instability, there are fortunately still resources available to help folks afford to heat their homes.

Maine’s budget invests in families and communities

By: Rep. Michael Brennan, D-Portland

I’ve had the opportunity to serve in the Maine Legislature for more than 20 years, and throughout that time, I’ve witnessed many different state budget negotiations. Until this year, though, I’ve never had first-hand experience with those negotiations. Now, as a member of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs (AFA) Committee, which is responsible for crafting and reviewing the budget line by line, I believe without hesitation that we passed the best possible budget for the people of Maine in June.
