AUGUSTA - Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 9:30 a.m., over 100 child care workers from across the state will be honored in Augusta as part of the celebration of a new law passed to recruit and retain Maine's child care workforce.
Last week, the Maine Legislature passed LD 1652, a bill from Speaker Fecteau to invest $12 million into ongoing funding to support Manes child care workforce. This initiative is supported by Governor Mills and included in her supplemental budget proposal as an economic development measure to support the "workforce behind our workforce" and contribute to building a world class child care system by increasing training and pay for all Maine child care workers.
This week, April 2-8 is the national Week of the Young Child, focusing public attention on the needs of young children and their families and recognizing the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. Maines theme is "the strength of early childhood educators." The press event will celebrate this strength as well as recent progress made for the child care workforce.
