Terry introduces bill to support veterans relocating to Maine

AUGUSTA – Rep. Parnell Terry, D-Gorham, introduced legislation Wednesday that would provide funding for organizations that recruit retiring military members and their families to Maine, and offer support as they transition to civilian life.

Rep. Parnell Terry

“During a time when businesses are struggling to hire and retain employees, and our state is struggling with an aging workforce, organizations that recruit retiring military members provide a critical service,” said Terry. “Supporting efforts to connect dedicated and hardworking servicemembers and their families with Maine businesses experiencing workforce shortages is a win-win for all of us, and I am so proud to advocate for this work.”

LD 620 would build on the success of a pilot project within Maine’s Department of Economic and Community Development to support organizations recruiting retiring military members. The project was created through legislation enacted by the Legislature in 2022 with an initial spending total of $200,000 that the new measure would make permanent.

The Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs will hold a work session on the bill in the coming weeks.

Rep. Terry is serving his first term in the Maine House and represents part of Gorham.
