Stover appointed to serve as House chair of Government Oversight Committee

AUGUSTA - Rep. Holly Stover, D-Boothbay, has been appointed to serve as House chair of the Legislature's Government Oversight Committee (GOC). The appointment went into effect on Thursday by order of Speaker of the House Ryan Fecteau, D-Biddeford. Stover is replacing Rep. Genevieve McDonald, D-Stonington, who is stepping down from serving on the committee.

GOC oversees state government by holding public hearings and directing the Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability to conduct independent, objective reviews of state agencies, programs and other entities receiving public funds or expending private funds for public purposes.

"The Government Oversight Committee provides a critical service to our state," said Stover. "We work to ensure that Maine people have a government that is accountable, transparent and effective. From looking into how public funds are spent to evaluating how efficiently state agencies are run, our committee's work could not be more important. I am thrilled to be taking on the role of House chair, and am thankful to Rep. Genevieve McDonald for all her leadership in the past year on the committee."

"It was an honor to chair this committee over the last year," said McDonald. "Rep. Stover will be a great House chair of the committee, and I look forward to seeing what the committee is able to accomplish in the months and years to come."

Stover is in her second term in the Maine House representing Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, part of South Bristol, Southport and Westport Island. In addition to the Government Oversight Committee, she also serves on the Health and Human Services Committee.
