Salisbury receives Outstanding Woman of 2022 Award

AUGUSTA - Rep. Sue Salisbury, D-Westbrook, was selected from over 120 nominees as one of 20 Outstanding Women of 2022. Coast 93.1 and Hannaford offer this recognition to women in Maine who go above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference in their communities. As a small business owner, chair of the Westbrook school committee and state representative, Salisbury is an active member of her community in a multitude of ways.

"I am so happy to receive this recognition and for the opportunity to connect with other amazing Maine women working hard for their communities and our state," said Salisbury.

In the Legislature, Salisbury chairs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Caucus and the Food Insecurity Caucus. The EMS Caucus convenes regular meetings with stakeholders and community members to address critical workforce shortages within the emergency responder field. The Food Insecurity Caucus was created in response to legislation introduced last year by then-Representative, now Senator, Craig Hickman, D-Winthrop. The caucus, like the legislation, is focused on ending hunger in Maine by 2030 in partnership with local agricultural initiatives, schools and programs housed under the Department of Health and Human Services.

Additionally, Salisbury has sponsored several pieces of legislation to support small businesses and local economic development including a measure that passed into law that removed limits on the number of taste-testing events for beer, wine and spirits to help local vendors rebound from the pandemic.

Currently, Salisbury is working on a bill she submitted last year to update the requirements for becoming a behavioral health professional, a profession that is desperately needed across the state.

Coast 93.1 will recognize and interview Salisbury and other recipients on-air. The recipients will convene in April at Hannaford Hall at the University of Southern Maine for an awards ceremony.

Salisbury is serving her first term in the Maine House of Representatives as a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs. She represents a portion of Westbrook.
