AUGUSTA - Rep. Sue Salisbury, D-Westbrook, will serve as House chair of the Legislature's Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee. Having served on the Blue Ribbon Commission to Study Emergency Medical Services in Maine in 2022, Salisbury was appointed by Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross.
"The Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee works hard to keep Mainers safe, reduce how many people enter the criminal justice system and provide support to our first responders," said Salisbury. "Last session, the committee acknowledged the importance of Emergency Medical Services to our communities across the state and began to work towards addressing longstanding critical workforce shortages within the profession. I was honored to be directly involved in that work and look forward to continuing our progress on this issue and on matters relating to incarceration and the criminal justice system as chair of the committee in the 131st Legislature."
The committee oversees policy relating to the Maine Criminal Code, Maine Juvenile Code, Maine Bail Code, criminal law and criminal procedure, sentencing, Criminal Law Advisory Commission, Department of Public Safety, fire safety, law enforcement, the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and victims' rights.
Salisbury is serving her second term in the Maine House and represents District 128, part of Westbrook.
