Sagadahoc lawmakers earn highest score for supporting state employees

AUGUSTA - Reps. Seth Berry, D-Bowdoinham, Allison Hepler, D-Woolwich, Jay McCreight, D-Harpswell, Sean Paulhus, D-Bath, and Denise Tepler, D-Topsham, have all received a 100% rating on votes to support state workers, according to a recent scorecard released by the Maine State Employees Association, Local 1989 of the Service Employees International Union (MSEA-SEIU).

"It is an honor to represent and advocate for the many state employees in my district and across Maine," said Berry. "They keep our state running even in times of crisis, and the votes we take in the Legislature should support and honor that work."

The member-run union group scored legislators' votes on key bills related to state workers from the first session of the 130th Legislature, including the Back-to-Basics Budget, funding collective bargaining agreements with executive branch employees, binding arbitration and the two-year state budget.

"I'm proud of voting to make critical investments in our state and to strengthen the right of state workers to collectively bargain, said Hepler. Supporting our public sector employees is vital to the overall health of our state."

Berry represents House District 55: Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Swan Island and most of Richmond. He is the House chair of the Legislature's Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee. Berry previously served from 2006-2014, the final two years as House majority leader.

Hepler is serving her second term in the Maine House and sits on both the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee and Marine Resources Committee. She represents the towns of Arrowsic, Dresden, Georgetown, Phippsburg, Woolwich and part of Richmond. McCreight, House chair of the Legislature's Marine Resources Committee and a member of the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee, is serving her fourth term in the Maine House and represents Harpswell, West Bath and northeastern Brunswick. Paulhus, a member of the Legislature's State and Local Government Committee, is serving his second term in the Maine House and represents the city of Bath.

Tepler is serving her fourth term in the Maine House and represents the town of Topsham. She serves as the House chair of the Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services Committee.
