AUGUSTA – Local Reps. Amy Roeder and Laura Supica, D-Bangor, will serve as House chairs of two legislative policy committees.
Roeder will chair the Maine Legislature’s Labor Committee, which was previously the Labor and Housing Committee. Supica will chair the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee. Both members previously served as chairs of their respective committees during the 131st Legislature.
“I am honored to serve as House chair of the Labor Committee,” said Roeder. “For the past four years, our committee has worked arduously to protect Maine-based businesses and workers alike. I look forward to continuing this work with my colleagues and finding new ways to better address Maine’s workforce demand.”
The committee oversees the Maine Department of Labor, as well as policy related to working conditions, workforce development, collective bargaining and more.
“Last session, my colleagues and I on the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee developed legislation to support Maine veterans, protect access to voting and ensure fairness in the laws governing gambling, liquor and the cannabis industry,” said Supica. “It is an honor to have been appointed to serve another term as House chair. I look forward to continuing our work from last session and in particular, working to secure ongoing funding for Maine veterans’ homes so the Aroostook and Washington County homes can remain open.”
The committee oversees policy regarding liquor laws, lottery, off-track betting, election laws, governmental ethics, the Department of Defense and the Maine National Guard.
Roeder and Supica were appointed to their respective chair positions by House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, D-Biddeford. Both lawmakers are serving their third terms in the Maine House and represent portions of Bangor.
