Roeder receives Maine AFL-CIO Edie Beaulieu Legislative Award

AUGUSTA - Rep. Amy Roeder, D-Bangor, received the Maine AFL-CIO's Edie Beaulieu Legislative Award Thursday night. Roeder is a member of three unions, serves on the Legislature's Labor and Housing Committee and successfully sponsored legislation to extend family medical leave to hourly school employees and enforce a provision that ensures accrued vacation time be paid to employees upon cessation of their work.

"I am truly honored to receive the Edie Beaulieu Legislative Award," said Roeder. "As the daughter of a railway worker and a teacher, both union members, I am passionate about protecting the rights of our workers."

During her time in the Legislature, Roeder supported bills aimed at modernizing Maine's unemployment insurance system, protecting the safety of construction workers and providing funding to Maine's local construction workforce as they build affordable, energy-efficient homes.

"I am forever thankful to union members who fought and continue to fight for gender pay equity, better paid leave policies and other issues that disproportionately harm workers, especially women workers."

The Maine AFL-CIO is a state federation of over 160 local labor unions representing over 40,000 workers and retirees across Maine. The organization is dedicated to representing the interests of working people at both the state and local level.
