AUGUSTA - House Majority Leader Mo Terry, D-Gorham, and Assistant Majority Leader Kristen Cloutier, D-Lewiston, released the following statements in response to Gov. Janet Mills' proposed supplemental budget:
House Majority Leader Mo Terry:
"In 2023, we passed a budget that made historic investments in Maine's working families. This supplemental budget proposal from Gov. Mills builds on those commitments and addresses some of our state's most urgent needs, with more funding for emergency housing, behavioral health care providers and crucial resources for coastal communities to recover from the recent devastating storms," said Terry. "As the budget committee gets to work reviewing and strengthening this proposal in the coming weeks, House Democrats will be committed to advocating for more investments in housing, child care and our mental health system as we continue our work to build a better, safer state for all Mainers."
Assistant Majority Leader Kristen Cloutier:
"The Governor's supplemental budget proposal reflects our state's commitment to supporting victims of violent crimes, including members of my community who continue to struggle in the aftermath of the Lewiston tragedy," said Cloutier. "Establishing a mass violence care fund is a critical behavioral health investment that will ensure a continuum of care for victims and their families, who will be struggling with the healing process from this traumatic event well into the future. Additionally, the ongoing funding for state programs typically supported by federal funding through the Victims of Crime Act will ensure that the state meets our responsibility to step up and provide help to those navigating the darkest hours of their lives."
