AUGUSTA - House Majority Leader Mo Terry, D-Gorham, and Assistant Majority Leader Kristen Cloutier, D-Lewiston, released the following statements in response to Governor Janet Mills' proposed budget:
House Majority Leader Mo Terry:
"Governor Mills' biennial budget proposal offers a thoughtful initial framework that supports working families and addresses some of our state's most significant challenges," said Terry. "This proposal will build on our historic investments in education, expand access to care for behavioral and mental health and continue to provide property tax relief for homeowners. In the coming weeks and months, we will hear from the public and our budget committee will get to work to strengthen this proposal. I know House Democrats will be eager to consider more investments in areas like housing, the justice system and the overall health and wellbeing of our state as we work towards a final budget that Mainers can be proud of."
Assistant Majority Leader Kristen Cloutier:
"This biennial budget proposal responds to the needs of Maine families, from increasing funding for Pre-K and child care support to ensuring that more older Mainers will be able to age with dignity in their communities," said Cloutier. "It provides a starting point for our conversations about how to move Maine forward over the next two years. As a former member of the Appropriations Committee, I know firsthand the hard work that will go into shaping this proposal into a final budget. I look forward to the discussions to come around Democratic priorities such as supporting the care economy and investing in our natural resources, and I am excited to work with my House Democratic colleagues to ensure that we achieve a budget that works for all Mainers."
