AUGUSTA - Rep. Ambureen Rana, D-Bangor, was selected as a 2023 recipient of the 20 Under 40 Leadership Award from the Council of State Governments (CSG) and will receive the award this December in Raleigh, North Carolina.
"I am honored to have been chosen as a recipient of the Council of State Governments' 20 Under 40 Leadership Award," said Rana. "In my first term, I've worked diligently with advocates and state departments to pass two crucial bills. The first would limit exorbitant reinstatement fees for those whose driver's licenses have been suspended, which disproportionately impacts people who are poor. The second would include questions regarding sexual orientation and gender identity data during patient intake at health care facilities, which helps ensure our LGBTQ+ community members receive the most comprehensive health care possible. I look forward to continuing my work to address Maines housing shortage, increase access to mental health care and support legislation to ensure the safety of all Mainers in their communities."
The CSG 20 Under 40 Leadership Award annually recognizes the work of 20 up-and-coming elected and appointed officials from across the country who not only exemplify strong leadership skills, but have also demonstrated a true commitment to serving the citizens of their state.
"While the outstanding state officials recognized by CSG this year come from diverse backgrounds, different political parties, every branch of state government and every region of our country, they share the same commitment to serve others," said David Adkins, CSG executive director/CEO. "They are hard-working, visionary leaders whose passion for public service is producing results for their states. I marvel at all they have achieved, and I look forward to watching their impact grow even greater in the years ahead."
"We are honored to highlight the important work of this year's 20 Under 40 class members supporting the citizens of their states," said Lorna Patches, CSG deputy director of membership engagement and leadership development. "Their efforts serve as inspiration for leaders across the nation."
Rana is serving her first term in the Maine House and represents House District 21, which includes a portion of Bangor. She serves on the Legislature's Joint Standing Committee on Taxation and the Joint Select Committee on Housing.
