Murphy named House chair of Legislature’s Education and Cultural Affairs Committee

Rep. Kelly Noonan Murphy

AUGUSTA – Rep. Kelly Murphy, D-Scarborough, has been appointed to serve as House chair of the Legislature’s Education and Cultural Affairs Committee.

“I am beyond excited to continue to work with my colleagues on the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee where we have worked hard to pass measures that will support Maine teachers, uplift students and further strengthen our education system,” said Murphy. “It is an honor to be appointed to the role of chair, and I am ready to get to work when the session ramps up in January.”

Murphy, who has served on the committee for two years, was appointed chair by House Speaker Ryan Fecteau. The panel oversees the Department of Education, as well as policies related to school funding, educational programs and provides state resources that students need to succeed.

Murphy is serving her second term in the Maine House representing part of Scarborough.
