AUGUSTA - Rep. Kelly Noonan Murphy, D-Scarborough, presented LD 603, An Act to Make Electric Breast Pumps More Accessible by Providing for MaineCare Reimbursement, before the Legislature's Health and Human Services Committee on Wednesday.
The bill would require Maine's Medicaid program, commonly known as MaineCare, to reimburse eligible receipts for electric breast pumps and supplies without prior authorization or limitation when recommended or prescribed by a physician.
"All Maine women deserve equitable access to electric breast pumps and supplies," said Murphy. "This legislation will support nursing mothers and ensure that they will be able to provide their children with the essential nutrition they need. I'm looking forward to working with members of the committee to enshrine this important provision into law."
The bill faces further action in the Health and Human Services Committee with a work session in the coming weeks.
Murphy, a member of the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee, is serving her first term in the Maine House and represents part of Scarborough.
