AUGUSTA - Rep. Kristi Mathieson, D-Kittery, has been named a 2023 Opioid Policy Fellow and will participate in a program by the National Conference of State Legislatures that supports state legislative leaders in opioid response policy from across the country.
"I am honored to have been selected as a 2023 Opioid Policy Fellow," said Mathieson. "This program will afford me the opportunity to exchange ideas with leading researchers and policy experts about how we can address and alleviate the opioid epidemic in Maine. This multifaceted issue affects us all and requires collaborative, evidence-based strategies to meet people where they are. To reduce harm, it's critical that we have policies in place that show compassion to people in crisis."
The yearlong fellowship is designed to aid legislators who are experienced or emerging leaders on opioid addiction and overdose issues. It will allow legislators from around the country to build knowledge about new research, policy and innovations to apply in their state.
Mathieson is serving her second term in the Maine House representing Kittery. She serves on the Legislatures Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services Committee and the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.
