Martin commends Transportation Department's Three-Year Work Plan

AUGUSTA - The House chair of the Legislature's Transportation Committee, Rep. Roland "Danny" Martin, D-Sinclair, shared his support for the Maine Department of Transportation's (MDOT) Three-Year Work Plan released on Tuesday. The interactive publication outlines priority projects for calendar years 2022, 2023 and 2024, including highway maintenance, bridge repairs, passenger rail improvements, harbor upgrades and more.

On the Transportation Committee, Martin has worked closely with MDOT to identify and address the most crucial transportation needs across the state. The towns and unorganized territories of Aroostook County, like those served by Martin in House District 150, are among the communities that will see improvements to their infrastructure.

"I am proud of the work we have done together community members and legislators alike to ensure that MDOT has the necessary funding to continue improving our transportation system," said Martin. "The Three-Year Work Plan provides a roadmap detailing how these funds will be spent to improve the lives of Mainers across our state and in Aroostook County."

Proposed improvements include, but are not limited to:

  • Culvert replacements and drainage maintenance in the Town of St. Agatha;
  • Repairs and improvements along Route 161 between New Canada and Cross Lake Township, spanning 5.22 miles;
  • Bridge repairs and structural maintenance to the Thoroughfare Bridge in Cross Lake Township;
  • Signal improvements made to the Route 1 railway crossing in the Town of Van Buren; and
  • Safety and infrastructure improvements that will assist the Northern Aroostook Regional Airport with safe snow removal.

Martin, who is serving his fourth consecutive term in the Maine House, represents the communities of Frenchville, Grand Isle, Madawaska, St. Agatha and Van Buren, plus the unorganized territory of Square Lake (including Cross Lake, Madawaska Lake and Sinclair Townships). In addition to serving as House chair of the Legislature's Transportation Committee, Martin is a member of the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee.
