AUGUSTA - Rep. Roland "Danny" Martin, D-Sinclair, commends federal lawmakers in their work to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) signed into law on Monday.
"In Aroostook County and across the state, we will see improvements in our roads and bridges, internet connectivity and local airports-all contributing to a stronger Maine economy," said Martin, House chair of the Maine Legislature's Transportation Committee. "This bipartisan infrastructure deal, combined with the work we have accomplished in Maine to improve our states transportation systems, sets our communities up for success."
The IIJA will allocate the following to Maine:
- $1.3 billion in highway and bridge program formula funding through Fiscal Year 2026, including $50 million in additional federal formula funding (representing a 25% increase) in the first year;
- $225 million in dedicated bridge funding through Fiscal Year 2026;
- $19 million across five years to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure;
- $241 million over five years to improve public transportation options;
- $74 million over five years to improve infrastructure at airports; and
- At least $100 million to expand high-speed broadband across the state.
Martin, who is serving his fourth consecutive term in the Maine House, represents the communities of Frenchville, Grand Isle, Madawaska, St. Agatha and Van Buren, plus the unorganized territory of Square Lake, including Cross Lake, Madawaska Lake and Sinclair Townships. In addition to his work with the Legislature's Transportation Committee, Martin serves on the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee.
