Maine's EMS Week celebration to be held at the State House

AUGUSTA - Tomorrow, May 23 at 11:00 a.m., state lawmakers will join Maine Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel and Friends of EMS for the annual Maine EMS Week Celebration and Remembrance Ceremony. The event will be held on the State House grounds at the Maine EMS Memorial and Education site.

The Maine EMS Memorial and Education site is a tribute to EMS professionals who serve in career and volunteer capacities, EMS professionals who have lost their lives in the line of duty while tending to patients and EMS leaders who have contributed extraordinarily to the improvement of Maine's EMS system.

National EMS Week is May 19-25. The week was first celebrated in 1974, the year after the landmark Federal EMS Act of 1973, which established the countrys current EMS network. Both the state and the national EMS week events are traditionally held during the fourth week of May.
