Local state representatives named to policy committees

AUGUSTA - Waldo County state representatives have been named to key legislative policy committees for the upcoming session.

Rep. Janice Dodge, D-Belfast, will serve on the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee, and Rep. S. Paige Zeigler, D-Montville, will serve as House chair of the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee.

The Education and Cultural Affairs Committee oversees the state systems of education, along with the university and community college system, the Maine Arts Commission, Maine State Library, Maine State Museum and Maine Public Broadcasting Corporation.

"I am so grateful to be serving a third term on the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee," said Dodge. "I hope to help improve educational opportunities for Maine K-12 students, as well as those attending our higher education institutions, and support the delivery frameworks that make them happen. It is also a joy to consider the cultural entities that come before our committee, which provide artistic and historical offerings that enhance education and help drive our economy."

The Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee oversees policy relating to energy resources, efficiency and conservation, natural gas, telecommunications, emergency services and water and sewer utilities.

"I am honored to have been chosen to serve as House chair of the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee," said Zeigler, who has previously served two years on the committee. "A large part of this role is ensuring all voices are heard throughout the committee process and that our work is conducted in a timely and fair manner. I am ready to work with all of my colleagues, regardless of political party, to find solutions to the problems facing our state."

Dodge is serving her third term in the Maine House of Representatives. She represents the communities of Belfast, Belmont and Northport.

Zeigler is serving his fourth and final term in the Maine House and represents the communities of Appleton, Islesboro, Liberty, Lincolnville, Montville, Morrill and Searsmont.
