Leaders of Legislature's Gun Safety Caucus respond to Governor Mills' gun safety proposal

AUGUSTA - Following tonight's State of the State address, during which Gov. Janet Mills outlined her priorities for gun safety legislation this session, Sen. Anne Carney, D-Cape Elizabeth, and Rep. Vicki Doudera, D-Camden, leaders of the Legislature's Gun Safety Caucus, released the following statement:

"Tonight, the Governor outlined key proposals that will help prevent and reduce gun violence here in Maine. Strengthening the existing yellow flag law and closing loopholes in our background check law will go a long way toward keeping our families and communities safer. In the coming weeks, we look forward to digging into these proposals and partnering with the Administration to find ways to address additional gaps in our laws. We applaud the Governor for putting us on a path to implement meaningful policy changes that promote safe, responsible gun ownership."
