AUGUSTA - Rep. Vicki Doudera, D-Camden, House leader of the Legislature's Gun Safety Caucus, has released a statement in response to the news that four people were shot to death in a Bowdoin home and three people were shot on Interstate 295 in Yarmouth on Tuesday morning.
"The towns of Bowdoin and Yarmouth and our entire state are now part of the heartbreaking list of communities who have suffered a mass shooting 165 in the U.S. so far this year. The sad truth is that Maine is not immune from gun violence, including firearm suicide or accidental shootings involving children. Right now we grieve with the family and friends affected and support those who responded to the scene, but we should also take a hard look at whether our laws are adequate to protect both the public and law enforcement by keeping guns out of the hands of those who should not have them."
