Independence Association to the State House in honor of the organization’s 60th anniversary

AUGUSTA – Midcoast area lawmakers recently welcomed the Independence Association to the State House in honor of the organization’s 60th anniversary.

“Along with my Midcoast colleagues in the Legislature, I am very grateful for the Independence Association’s six decades of service and its continuing commitment to individuals with disabilities, their families and the broader Midcoast community,” said Rep. Poppy Arford, D-Brunswick. “Through its programs, the organization provides community-based support services to promote independence, dignity and full participation in community life.”

The Legislature also recognized the 50th anniversary of Spindleworks, a nationally recognized, inclusive art center and program of the Independence Association.

“This recognition reflects the thousands of lives touched by Independence Association and Spindleworks over the decades and belongs to the individuals and families we support, the staff who make this work possible, and the broader community that shares our vision of inclusion and opportunity. We are proud of our history and inspired to continue building on it in the years ahead,” said Brett Bulmer, executive director of the Independence Association.
