House advances bill to support veterans moving to Maine

AUGUSTA - The Maine House of Representatives unanimously voted to advance a bill Tuesday sponsored by Rep. Mo Terry, D-Gorham, to provide funding support to organizations that recruit retiring military members and their families to Maine.

"Organizations doing this work aren't only supporting veterans, they're also helping bring more jobs and economic activity to our state during a time when we need it most," said Terry. "Over the years, retired service members and their families have contributed immensely to our communities. I am thrilled to see this measure advance with such bipartisan support. I look forward to welcoming more hardworking individuals to Maine, thanks to the good work being done by these organizations."

LD 265 would help fund organizations actively working with retiring military members and their families to help them relocate and transition to civilian life in Maine.

The bill faces further votes in the House and Senate.

Terry, who represents part of Gorham, is serving her fourth term in the Maine House and serves as the House Majority Leader. She is a chef and small business owner with more than 25 years of experience in the food service industry.
