AUGUSTA – Last week, Rep. Allison Hepler, D-Woolwich, introduced a bill before the Legislature’s Transportation Committee to rename the Station 46 Bridge on Main Street in Woolwich the Woolwich Veterans Memorial Bridge.
“Woolwich honors its veterans in many ways, and I believe this is another way to recognize the men and women who have served our nation over the years,” said Hepler. “The idea to rename this bridge came from a local constituent and I’m proud to advocate for this change and this recognition.”
During the public hearing for the measure, Hepler also provided committee members with a letter in support from the Town of Woolwich.
The bill received unanimous support from the committee and will be voted on by the full House and Senate.
Hepler is the House chair of the Marine Resources Committee and is a member of the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee. She is serving her fourth term in the Maine House and represents Arrowsic, Georgetown, Phippsburg, West Bath and Woolwich.
