AUGUSTA – The National Caucus of Environmental Legislators has named Assistant House Majority Leader Lori K. Gramlich, D-Old Orchard Beach, its Maine State Lead for 2025-2026.
“Here in Maine, we are leading on environmental policy issues, whether that means mitigating the impact of toxic PFAS, also known as ‘forever chemicals’, or increasing our resiliency in the face of climate-driven extreme weather events,” said Gramlich. “As a longtime advocate for Maine’s environment and public health, I am thrilled to share our good work with policymakers from other states and to have the opportunity to engage with other leaders from across the country.”
As a member of the Maine House of Representatives, Gramlich has sponsored successful legislation to protect Maine’s beaches and shoreline, promote access to safe, clean drinking water, strengthen protections for endangered and threatened species, and to reduce reliance on single-use disposable plastics. She has also been a leading advocate for measures that protect the environment and public health from the effects of PFAS chemicals.
National Caucus of Environmental Legislators is a nonpartisan organization that connects state legislators working on environmental policy issues by providing research, education and networking opportunities.
As NCEL’s Maine State Lead, Gramlich will serve as a liaison between the organization and her colleagues in the Legislature. State leaders work with NCEL staff to organize state briefings and provide resources to lawmakers.
Gramlich is serving her fourth term in the Maine House representing Old Orchard Beach. Before being elected assistant House majority leader, she served as House chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
