Governor signs Crockett bill to support small wine retailers into law

AUGUSTA - A bill that eases restrictions on small wine retailers with at least two locations, sponsored by Rep. Edward Crockett, D-Portland, was signed into law by Gov. Janet Mills last week.

LD 1914 was proposed as a means of helping small businesses more easily move wine products between their stores, with the approval of the Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations, in an effort to remain competitive with box stores that often have higher quantities of products readily available to customers.

"Small businesses in my district are still struggling to meet the product demand of our community members," said Crockett. "My bill, now law, gives wine retailers more freedom to move their own products to their multiple locations, and it is the consumer who wants to support small local businesses that will prosper the most. I thank my colleagues for their support."

Crockett, who is serving his second term in the Maine House, represents portions of Portland and Falmouth. He serves on the Legislature's Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs.
