Rep. Stephan Bunker
As a new member of the Maine House of Representatives, I’m deeply honored to serve on behalf of the people of Farmington and Chesterville. I’ve lived in this area for a long time, and I know our towns represent the heart of Maine’s character and working heritage. I'm committed to being your voice in Augusta.
This is the first of my new monthly column series, where I intend to share the work I am doing at the State House, provide information on important bills and offer helpful information and resources.
Right now, I know that Maine families are struggling with rising costs across the board – from heating oil and electricity to groceries and housing. This isn't just about numbers; it's about Mainers having to make difficult choices between basic necessities and about which bills to pay at the end of every month.
As your representative, it’s my goal to focus on practical solutions like expanding property tax relief programs, supporting energy efficiency initiatives and finding ways to make housing more available and affordable. These aren't partisan issues – they're Maine issues, and I look forward to working with all of my colleagues to help solve them. I’m also committed to continued support for the state covering 55% of K-12 public school funding and maintaining 5% municipal revenue sharing, both of which help to indirectly ease the pressure on local property taxpayers.
This session, I have been appointed to sit on two committees: the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee and the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee. On Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues to find solutions to issues facing Maine’s farms and forestry businesses. I know how integral these industries are to our community and state, and I plan on doing all I can to support them in Augusta.
On Criminal Justice and Public Safety, I plan to use my law enforcement knowledge and experience to help make Maine a safer place for all. This includes working to increase support and funding for first responders, which would in turn support the wellbeing of all Mainers.
