AUGUSTA - Legislation to promote the use of post-consumer recycled plastic content in beverage containers, sponsored by Rep. Vicki Doudera, D-Camden, will go into effect Monday, August 8.
LD 1467 creates a minimum post-consumer recycled content requirement (PCR) for all plastic beverage containers sold in Maine beginning with 25% PCR by 2026 and increasing to 30% PCR by 2031.
"Our state has ambitious goals to address our climate challenges," said Doudera. "As such, we need creative solutions. This legislation holds manufacturers accountable for their products while helping to reduce our plastic waste and carbon emissions."
Doudera, a member of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee, represents the towns of Camden, Islesboro and Rockport and is the Maine State Lead for the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators. She is serving her second term in the Maine House of Representatives, where she chairs the Legislature's Gun Safety Caucus.
